Backstage update on Drew McIntyre’s WWE status after “quitting” on RAW - Reports

Drew McIntyre is one of WWE's biggest stars and yet, for whatever the reasons are, he is often booked by the creative team to lose big matches. Perhaps the worst to him was the most recent one, which happened in Glasgow, Scotland.

The company hosted the 2024 Clash at the Castle in Scotland this past weekend. In the main event, Damian Priest defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre. The Scottish Warrior had the advantage towards the end of the bout and just when Drew thought he had the match won, CM Punk showed up in a referee's uniform and refused to count the third pinfall. The Straight Edge Superstar further went low and left the ring. This allowed Priest to walk away with the win in McIntyre's home country.

In the fallout edition of RAW this week, The Scottish Warrior implied that he no longer has it in him to continue. He quit the company before walking out of the arena. The camera then caught him with Triple H and Adam Pearce backstage, with the latter attempting to follow McIntyre and convince him to stay.

As per Fightful Select, Drew McIntyre's departure is part of the storyline. The report also stated that Damian Priest got heavy praise from WWE officials for his Clash at the Castle performance. As for the Scotsman, he has repeatedly, consistently, and often gained praise for working through personal issues.

CM Punk announced during the post-show press conference in Glasgow that he will show up on SmackDown this week, as the blue brand's fallout edition is set to emanate from Chicago. It is very much possible that McIntyre shows up to return the favor.

CM Punk expected to be ready for WWE SummerSlam

It appears the creative team is building towards a big fight in Cleveland, Ohio, for The Biggest Party of the Summer. CM Punk only wrestled one televised match since his return to WWE in November 2023, and that was at the Royal Rumble in January.

The whole issue between The Second City Saint and Drew McIntyre stems from the latter playing a part in getting Punk injured during the match and further gloating about it for months on end. Thus, it is only fitting that the two megastars lock horns on a big stage like SummerSlam.

If the match gets booked, it will mark Punk's first singles match in World Wrestling Entertainment since 2014. His last one-on-one contest was against veteran Billy Gunn on the January 20 episode of WWE RAW that year.
