WWE presented the 15th annual Money in the Bank Premium Live Event this past weekend. The signature event featured many hard-hitting matches, unfortunate botches, and brutal bumps. Despite the hectic week, one controversial superstar is making real waves backstage.
Tiffany Stratton won the 9th Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match on Saturday in Toronto. The 17-minute bout took place before the main event and also featured Chelsea Green, IYO SKY, Zoey Stark, Lyra Valkyria, and Naomi. The finish saw Green and Stratton brawl up high above the ring until Green was knocked from the ladder through ringside tables, allowing Stratton to win her first-ever MITB match.
The Hot Mess was the fan-favorite of the Women's Money in the Bank as she was the only Canadian entrant. Despite her controversial heel antics, plus ongoing issues with RAW General Manager Adam Pearce and his SmackDown counterpart, Nick Aldis, Green received a big pop from the home crowd before the match, and at various times throughout.
Now a new report from Fightful Select has revealed how the 33-year-old was also praised backstage. Green has maintained a positive reputation backstage for some time, but there was a significant increase in internal feedback coming out of Money in the Bank weekend. The report notes that Green impressed people in the lead-up to Saturday's PLE, and her performance in the actual match.
WWE sources pointed to how one area of particular interest was Green's promotion of the women's MITB match. Not only did the former Women's Tag Team Champion appear on local media to promote the show, but she even traveled to Toronto mid-week to begin the appearances. She also received props for heavily promoting the event, and the match itself, on her social media.
Green was described as "very comfortable" with taking the match-ending ladder bump through the tables on Saturday. The 10-year veteran treated the spot like a "no big deal" situation. WWE officials were said to be very happy with how everything unfolded, adding that Green took the spot as safely as possible.
Chelsea Green set to bring the drama after WWE Money in the Bank
The WWE Universe generally views Chelsea Green as one of the most mischief-making superstars on the roster. The former TNA Knockouts World Champion was praised by her fellow Canadians for her performance during the Women's Money in the Bank Match, despite coming up short.
The former Laurel Van Ness has posted non-stop about her performance since Money in the Bank ended. She has joked about almost dying in the ladder spots and never walking again. She has also used the #TorontoScrewjob hashtag a few times, which is a nod to the infamous 1997 Montreal Screwjob involving Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and Vince McMahon.
"[Canadian flag emoji] CANADA, I TRIED FOR YOU. #TorontoScrewjob," Chelsea Green wrote with the photos below.
Green's Toronto Screwjob hashtags seem to indicate that she plans to cause issues coming out of the loss, perhaps on tonight's RAW. The WWE Universe has been speculating on what Green will do to aggravate Adam Pearce next.
