WWE pulled off a surprising move by having Shinsuke Nakamura dethrone LA Knight for the United States Championship at the Survivor Series: WarGames Premium Live Event. Now, a report has shed some light on why the title changed hands.

The King of Strong Style made his return to the Stamford-based promotion on the November 15, 2024, edition of SmackDown and immediately targeted LA Knight. The two stars had a back-and-forth encounter at Survivor Series before Nakamura connected with a Kinshasa for the pinfall win. This is his third reign as the United States Champion.

According to Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Daily Update, the Japanese star's win was "pushed big" in NOAH ahead of his match against Ulka Sasaki at the promotion's The New Year 2025 event on January 1.

“Shinsuke Nakamura’s U.S. Title win was pushed big in NOAH because Nakamura vs. Ulka Sasaki will be on the NOAH 1/1 show at Budokan Hall,” Meltzer reported. [H/T - Ringside News]

WWE Superstar is pissed off after Shinsuke Nakamura's win at Survivor Series, says Jonathan Coachman

Speaking on the Behind The Turnbuckle: The Last Word podcast, Coachman stated that he was shocked after LA Knight's US Title loss at Survivor Series. He added that The Mega Star was "not a young puppy anymore" and will be "pissed off" by the decision.

The former WWE personality also felt that Knight might not get a prominent role in the foreseeable future.

"Yeah, I'm [shocked] too. And LA Knight is not a young puppy anymore. And I think once you get to the late 30s and early 40s, things start to change. And we know his story. And I guarantee he is pissed off tonight. He's like, 'Man, as we head into the biggest year in the history of the company, he's losing his title four weeks before that happens.' So, he's gonna be a forgotten guy. That's just the way that it works. When Netflix starts and SmackDown starts on USA, LA Knight will not be a big part of the plans and that sucks because I think he should be a big part. I love that guy," he said. [1:09:37 - 1:10:08]

It remains to be seen how WWE books Shinsuke Nakamura's latest championship reign and if LA Knight will still be a credible challenger on the blue brand.
