Rey Fenix has been the subject of discussion in the wrestling world following his X posts against AEW and Tony Khan over what he called an "injustice!" Following the posts, the backstage reaction within WWE has been revealed, as well as how this could affect his potential signing.
On WrestleVotes Radio on Backstage Pass, JoeyVotes and TC had a crucial update on the Rey Fenix situation. It was previously reported that WWE was interested in signing Penta El Zero Miedo after the expiration of his contract with AEW.
As for Rey Fenix, his social media posts aimed at AEW have resulted in a "surprised" reaction backstage, presumably because of how public the issues are right now. While some internally within the Stamford-based company feel it could convolute his inevitable signing, JoeyVotes stated that Fenix is still very much expected to join the Sports Entertainment juggernaut.
The plan has always been for The Lucha Bros. to be a tag team in WWE.
Konnan had a surprising response to how he would have handled Rey Fenix if he were Tony Khan
Konnan, who also happens to be from Mexico like Fenix, doesn't appear to share too much sympathy towards the situation of the AEW star following his issues with the company.
On a recent edition of the Keepin' It 100 OFFICIAL podcast, the wrestling legend said if he were Tony Khan, he would have buried anyone who wanted to leave before letting them walk away after their contract was up.
"This is what I would do. I would use them. I would bury them. And then they can go when the contract's over. The thing is, he's tacked on time, which is prerogative, because Fenix was injured. But they are still getting paid," Konnan said. [From 4:38 to 5:01]
Konnan seems to be speaking purely from the perspective of a promoter. However, it's not an approach that many would consider popular in this day and age.
