WWE Survivor Series is among the most anticipated events on the wrestling promotion's calendar. This year's show, the 38th edition of the premium live event, will take place on November 30 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Until recently, Survivor Series was known for the elimination tag team matches. Between 2016 and 2021, although these matches took place, the primary focus of the event was a rivalry between RAW and SmackDown for brand supremacy. It all changed after the Stamford-based company rebranded the PLE as WWE Survivor Series: WarGames in 2022, replacing the elimination tag team matches with WarGames matches.
In a recent Q&A, PWInsider's Mike Johnson noted that he is hopeful that the new regime under Triple H might bring back the traditional elimination tag team matches. However, considering the primary focus of this year's event will be the WarGames match, the older format might never return:
"I do. I have a great nostalgia for the old 5 vs. 5 Elimination matches (the 1987 Survivor Series was the first PPV I ever ordered, we got cable the day before), but I realize that the spectacle of the match has greatly waned over the decades. If anyone could bring it back to some sort of former glory, it's probably Paul Levesque's current team, but Wargames is what is going to drive the interest in the show this November, so I think the old format will likely go the way of the Dodo Bird, sooner than later," noted Mike Johnson. New Bloodline vs Old Bloodline might take place at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2024
Roman Reigns went on a hiatus following his loss to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL. Amid his absence from the company, Solo Sikoa made massive changes to the faction. While he kicked out Jimmy Uso and Paul Heyman on one end, the former Enforcer recruited Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu to form a new group of his own.
Sikoa declared himself the new Tribal Chief and disrespected Roman Reigns, who returned at WWE SummerSlam to cost the 31-year-old his championship match against Cody Rhodes. The OTC then teamed up with The American Nightmare to take on Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa at Bad Blood.
After Jimmy Uso made his return to WWE programming to help Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes score the win in the main event of the premium live event, The Rock showed up, teasing to go after the three of them. With the wrestling promotion teasing Jey Uso's reunion with his former stablemates, a contest between the new and the old Bloodline at Survivor Series: WarGames seems to be on the card.
