Amid rumors of his potential departure from WWE, a new report has shed light on when MVP's current contract will expire. The veteran performer's former Hurt Business teammate, Bobby Lashley, is also reportedly leaving the Stamford-based wrestling promotion.
Montel Vontavious Porter has been absent from television for several months, while his last in-ring appearance dates back to July 2022. The 50-year-old recently underwent stem cell treatment, hoping to get cleared to return to the squared circle. Unfortunately, recent reports suggest he is no longer listed on the WWE's internal roster.
According to a new report from PWInsider, MVP is still under contract with WWE. His contract, however, is set to expire in mid-August, and there have been no major discussions regarding a new deal. PWInsider also claimed that there were talks about the veteran staying with the global juggernaut as a producer or commentator, which, unfortunately, did not lead to anything substantial.

WWE veteran explains why MVP's faction, The Hurt Business, failed to make a mark
MVP joined forces with Bobby Lashley to form The Hurt Business in 2020. He even promised The All Mighty a WWE Championship reign. The faction soon expanded as Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander also joined the group. Unfortunately, the stable was disbanded in 2022.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws, former WWE head writer Vince Russo claimed that the wrestling promotion missed a trick with the faction's storyline. The 63-year-old stated that the creative team could have used the group to educate people about the Black Lives Matter movement. But the company ignored the opportunity, making it a miss from the get-go.
"This is where it was a miss from the get-go. Bro, they started The Hurt Business during the height of Black Lives Matter. Now, here is the thing. Chris, you know better than anybody, especially for white people; there was a great misunderstanding of what Black Lives Matter really was. That was the perfect opportunity to tell that story and to explain that story, and to educate people... And who would have been better than MVP? They totally ignored it," he said. [7:28 onwards]

Last month, MVP openly criticized Triple H for deciding against the proposed reunion of The Hurt Business. Shelton Benjamin was released from his contract with the company last year, and with two more former members of the group set to follow suit, it will be interesting to see if a reunion happens outside the Stamford-based company.
