CM Punk hopes to compete at SummerSlam this year. However, his match depends on his recovery from injury. WWE seems to be prepared for Punk not being medically cleared in time for the PLE and has a backup plan in place according to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
The former AEW star made a shocking return to WWE at Survivor Series last year. Since his return, Punk has been in the midst of a memorable feud with Drew McIntyre, with Seth Rollins also potentially getting involved.
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk's feud has been the most talked about one even though the two haven't had a single match since Punk's return. The duo may face off at SummerSlam if the Second City Saint is cleared to wrestle. However, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has backup plans in place if Punk is not allowed to compete in time. Details on the backup plans are unknown at the time of writing.

How will Seth Rollins get involved in the CM Punk feud at SummerSlam?
The initial plan for WrestleMania XL was to have Seth Rollins defend his World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk. Punk, unfortunately, got injured during the Men's Royal Rumble Match and has been forced to stay on the sidelines since.
At WrestleMania XL, however, Punk cost McIntyre his newly won World Heavyweight Championship. He continued to cost the Scottish Warrior multiple chances at winning the title again. At Money In The Bank earlier this month, Punk got involved in McIntyre's cash-in attempt during Rollins' title match against Damian Priest. The former WWE Champion's interference saw Priest retaining his title.
The alleged plan is to finally have CM Punk face Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam. The promotion is also considering adding The Visionary to the mix by making him the official to call the match as the special guest referee, according to rumors.
