WWE introduced the World Heavyweight Championship in April of last year so that RAW Superstars could also fight for a major title. According to recent reports, the wrestling promotion is considering introducing new mid-card titles for the women's division.
WWE's female roster is currently stacked with several talented names. The women have been putting forth exemplary performances regularly, giving tough competition to their male counterparts in terms of the quality of the matches. However, unlike the men, there are only two singles titles for the female superstars, namely the WWE Women's Championship and the Women's World Championship.
In a recent X (fka Twitter) post, PWN claimed that the company is planning to have the United States Championship and the Intercontinental Championship for the women, with one on each brand. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful also reported that one of their sources mentioned that the global juggernaut had discussed the idea of introducing the mid-card titles.
In a recent X update, however, Sean Ross Sapp noted that his sources in the wrestling promotion have not heard anything about new titles.
Women's Champion Bayley shares her take on WWE introducing a new title
Bayley is among the most decorated superstars on the female roster. The 35-year-old is the inaugural Women's Grand Slam Champion in the Stamford-based promotion. The former Damage CTRL leader recently shared her opinion on the potential introduction of a mid-card title for the women's division.
While speaking with Sportskeeda Wrestling's Riju Dasgupta in an exclusive interview, Bayley noted that it would be great to have another title in the division. However, The Role Model mentioned that it would require someone to fight for it to happen:
"I mean, it wouldn't hurt. It would be nice to have another title. I think it's just gonna take time. When we wanted those Women's Tag Team titles, it took a long time and it took someone actually fighting for them, so if that's what we want, someone has to stand up for it and really fight for it and prove that it's going to be a benefit for the division," she said. Bayley defeated former stablemate IYO SKY to win the WWE Women's Championship at WrestleMania XL. She has defended her title against the likes of Naomi, Tiffany Stratton, and Piper Niven. It will be interesting to see how she will fare against Queen of the Ring Nia Jax at SummerSlam.
