A recent report suggests that the 37-year-old WWE personality could be taking a step back from his announcing duties with football season approaching. The name in question is Pat McAfee.

The former Indianapolis Colts Punter works as a color commentator for Monday Night RAW alongside Michael Cole. McAfee made a surprising return to the Stamford-based promotion at the 2024 Royal Rumble and took part in the multi-man contest as the entrant #22. However, he quickly eliminated himself after seeing Bron Breakker and Omos in the ring.

According to the latest reports from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Pat McAfee is set to return to ESPN's College Gameday every Saturday during the upcoming football season. Last year, he stepped away from WWE announcing duties when he started working for the College Gameday. It's expected that he might do the same thing this year, though nothing is confirmed yet.

Pat McAfee opens up about his return to WWE in-ring action

The former NFL player's last official in-ring match was at WrestleMania 39. McAfee went one-on-one with former WWE Champion The Miz. The Monday Night RAW announcer had his big WrestleMania moment when he defeated The A-Lister.

On an episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the 37-year-old star discussed his match against Baron Corbin at SummerSlam 2022. McAfee admitted that he was struggling during the bout, raising questions about his future in the ring.

"This is SummerSlam in Nashville," Pat McAfee said as he stood up on the table. "That's little Charles Robinson [referee] right there, and that is me, 'Oh my God. I'm about to fall right on [Robinson] right here, and then I just stumble off onto Baron Corbin. That has been on my mind forever. So anytime somebody is like, 'You getting back in the ring?' I'm like, 'There is a moment when I thought I was dying,' and the only person I could see was [Robinson], and he's like, 'What do you need from me?' That can happen literally at any moment," said Pat McAfee.

It remains to be seen who will fill McAfee's seat at the RAW announcer's desk when he returns to his ESPN's College Gameday role.
