WWE has been home to several notable celebrity superstars, many of whom have made a strong impression on fans, such as Logan Paul, Pat McAfee, Maria Menounos, and Lawrence Taylor, among others. Bad Bunny is another high-profile star who shocked the WWE Universe in recent years. The two sides are now in the news again, but multiple sources dismiss a major story.
The self-proclaimed King of Latin Trap debuted with WWE in 2021. Bunny then made his in-ring debut at WrestleMania 37, teaming with Damian Priest to defeat The Miz and John Morrison. The 15-minute match served as the co-main event of Night One. Several months later, the Puerto Rican entertainer made his Royal Rumble debut in 2022, entering at #27 as a surprise entrant and eliminating Sheamus, then joining Rey Mysterio to eliminate Dolph Ziggler. Eventual winner Brock Lesnar tossed Bunny out after a 7:41 run.
Bad Bunny's last match was at WrestleMania Backlash in May 2023. The three-time Grammy Award winner returned to Puerto Rico to defeat Damian Priest in a 25-minute San Juan Street Fight in front of almost 18,000 fans. He caused a stir in the world of wrestling today when he announced that Backlash would be going to Mexico. He did not provide a date or venue but mentioned that Backlash went to France in 2024 because WWE saw that taking the PLE on the road worked. The claim is now being disputed.
World Wrestling Entertainment has not publicly responded to Bunny's claim as of this writing, and Backlash has not been added to the schedule yet. However, PWInsider reports that multiple sources within WWE have said Bunny's comments were not accurate.
Sources reiterated that there are no current plans to hold Backlash in Mexico. Bunny has not provided further information on his remarks. Fightful Select also had multiple sources deny that Backlash is planned for Mexico.
In recent years, a WWE PLE in Mexico has been rumored, and Rey Mysterio has encouraged it. However, Bad Bunny's claim is believed to have been made after he saw a Backlash Mexico graphic from a parody account on X, which made the rounds during Christmas Week.
