What’s the story?
John Cena is filming another movie, which means that he’ll be away from the WWE for an extended period of time. According to PWInsider, his latest movie will keep him out of action until at least July 2017.
In case you didn’t know...
For the last couple of years, Cena has indirectly distanced himself from the WWE, and pro wrestling altogether. The opportunities at Hollywood keep coming, all while he continues to give the WWE everything he can without getting burnt out.

While Cena was recovering from an injury, he started to appear on the Today Show, as well as other TV programs on a regular basis.
The heart of the matter
According to the report, Cena is filming a movie called The Pact, and it’s filming reportedly begins on April 19th. He is expected to perform a lead role in the film, which means that he won’t be able to come back until after the scheduled ending of filming, which is around June 9th, 2017.

Therefore, that would leave a WWE return for Cena at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, or sometime after that.
What’s next?
The “Superstar shake-up” is coming at a convenient time. This is the chance Vince McMahon will have to replace Cena on SmackDown LIVE and to get another major star onto the blue brand.
Not only is Cena leaving, but Nikki Bella is taking time off to heal from another injury as well. Mr. Hustle, Loyalty and Respect, when he decides to return, will make an immediate impact and will probably put over yet another Superstar just like he did with The Miz and AJ Styles.
Author's take
Cena is getting older, so his body won’t be able to hold up like it once used to. If he’s doing this to prolong a career after wrestling, then it’s a very wise move. However, the WWE is still in need of Cena, as he pushes a lot of merchandise and helps with the marketability and credibility of the product.
I'm a huge fan of Cena's and it's always disappointing when he leaves for a lengthy period of time. He’s an integral part of WWE programming and helps elevate the men who deserve it.
Cena didn't have to lose to Styles three times in a row. He also didn’t have to let The Miz walk all over him on the microphone. Sure, there will be differing opinions on that rivalry, but despite the loss, it helped The Miz get over as a character.
The WWE still needs Cena and the reaction when his music hits next will undoubtedly be the pop of the night.
