Rusev injury update: Lana provides a timetable for the Bulgarian Brute's return

The Bulgarian Brute is on the mend

What’s the story?

Rusev has been out with a shoulder injury and not only missed WrestleMania 33 but also looks like he’ll miss the “Superstar Shakeup”. Thankfully, his wife and manager, Lana, is around to let us known when we can expect him back.

In case you didn’t know...

Rusev’s shoulder injury was so bad that it required surgery. Rusev lost a squash match to The Big Show at Fastlane 2017, and his feud with Enzo and Cass also fizzled out. He hasn’t been seen on regular WWE programming since the March 13, 2017, edition of Raw.

The heart of the matter

According to the Ravishing Russian, who spoke with the Busted Open radio show, the handsome one is about two to four months away from returning to action. Fortunately, Rusev wasn’t involved in any major stories upon his injury, meaning he’s got a clean slate to work with once he comes back.

What’s next?

It’s hard to say what WWE will do with Rusev once he’s back off the shelf. Finn Balor has been out for months now and we’ve yet to see what they have planned for him now that he’s made his return. Where the WWE sits in regards to their narrative when Rusev returns will be a big factor in determining where he ends up.

Author’s take

If Rusev has anything going for him that other “foreign super monsters” in the WWE didn’t have, it’s actually two things. The first is that he’s got both the athletic skills and charisma that they want in a star. The second is Lana. You don’t get Rusev without Lana and vice versa. I hope that, once he’s healed up, they give him a chance to be a lovable, goofy babyface that can also kick YOUR BABY FACE OFF. He would make so much money doing that.
