Ryback: The perfect guy for Paul Heyman

Paul Heman and Ryback

When Paul Heyman got down on one knee and decide to make an honest “Paul Heyman guy” out of ‘Big Hungry’ Ryback on RAW this Monday, most of us fell off our chairs laughing our backsides off. To see the beady eyed Walrus behaving like a guy proposing marriage, all wide eyed and pleading was a rather rib-tickling moment.

But just what is that makes Ryback, the perfect guy for Heyman to manage in the current situation. Lets have a look..

Check out which wrestler EC3 finds cute RIGHT HERE

1) Heyman needs back-up against CM Punk

Paul Heyman’s other guy – Curtis Axel – Michael Mcgillicutty or whatever you want to call him has proven to be as ineffective as hell when it’s come to being the Paul Heyman guy and doesn’t seem to be doing anything other than smashing up the reputation of the Walrus as a big time main event manager losing out to wrestlers like R-Truth. He’s also been caught out by CM Punk way too easily which has allowed the Straight Edge Superstar to get his taped up hands on Heyman, something that Heyman really doesn’t want to happen.

What Ryback brings to the table for Heyman is the big towering bully(Mr I hate bullies, what bs). Here’s a guy who can dominate Punk and of course protect Heyman from a guy hell bent on smashing him up. The old adage ‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend’ totally rules over here. Ryback has smashed up Punk numerous times over the past year and a half and is just what Heyman needs right now for his long running feud with the Second City Saviour. Ryback will provide a big enough screen for Heyman to hide behind whenever a maddened Punk tries to kick his flabby posterior out of the ground.

2) Ryback’s character needed a push

Ryback’s character has been in a downward spiral ever since his previous feud with Punk ended. Sure he fought against Cena for the WWE championship, but the matches were barely good enough( yeah smashing Cena through the lights was a cool thing, but it didn’t do him any good. The three stages of hell match wasn’t that good either. Sure the match provided some entertainment, but for Ryback the result was the same – Ryback didn’t rule.

It got even worse when he was pitted against Chris Jericho. Y2J is known for his ability to help push upcoming superstars to the top but even he couldn’t do anything with the character of Ryback. Other than mock him, of course. The chant of ‘Cryback’ resonated in the arenas and after yet another PPV loss, Ryback dissapeared.

Ryback returned a few months back with a brand new gimmick, a bully who went around bullying jobbers and terrorising whoever had the misfortune of being in the same room as him. However, even that wasn’t really bringing him the attention that he so craved and so at Night of Champions the WWE finally gave him the push that he needed and elevated him to Paul Heyman’s stable.

Ever since, he’s got more exposure, has been able to get the crowd booing his backside off and of course has had Heyman draped onto his side. Of course the fact that he pushes himself as someone who hates bullies makes his character even more hated. The fact that he gets to share space with Heyman and Punk has not only helped him regain some of his confidence, we can now see some of that mean, smash everything in his way attitude back as well.

3) The WWE needed a monster heel

With Brock Lesnar on a part-time contract and the Big Show bawling his eyes out after being bullied around by ‘The Authority’ , the WWE needed someone to be there to terrorize the crowd and of course be that “bad guy’ that people just hate because they need someone to hate.

So what did they do they went to the guy who helped them manage the baddest of the bad – Brock Lenar, they went to the guy who made the Big Show the bad guy at ECW, they went to the guy who was Punk’s mentor when he went through his heel phase. They went to Paul Heyman.

The math was simple – Take Paul Heyman(a guy the crowd already hates), add a school-yard bully (Ryback), push them together against a crowd favourite(Punk). Add that to the fact that Ryback smashed Punk at Night of Champions, and and voila the school-yard bully is transformed into a monster of a heel.

If the WWE does plan on pushing Ryback as a monster heel, mixing him with Heyman’s brains can really see Ryback grow and actually flourish. As a long term proposition, Ryback as a monster heel can really work as he could easily be the guy they can turn to be their attack dog after ‘The Authority’ storyline comes to an end.

Of course, if that does happen, it will be Paul Heyman who gets all the accolades. If it doesn’t, Heyman does have Lesnar as a back-up plan so he doesn’t have to worry about dumping Ryback if he fails.

So is Ryback a perfect guy for Heyman. In a word, ‘Yes’
