Roman Reigns finally made his sensational return on the SmackDown Season Premiere, following the Steel Cage match between Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa. After The American Nightmare retained the Undisputed WWE Championship, he suffered a post-match beatdown from The Bloodline.

Just as Jacob Fatu was about to deliver a devastating blow to Cody, Roman Reigns appeared and saved the champion from a further beatdown. This unexpected alliance sparked a massive reaction from the fans.

In this article, we will discuss three reasons why The Original Tribal Chief possibly chose to save Cody Rhodes on WWE’s SmackDown Season Premiere.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

#3. Roman Reigns gives more importance to the new Bloodline rather than his rivalry with Cody Rhodes

One of the major reasons why The Original Tribal Chief rescued Cody Rhodes after the Steel Cage match could be that Reigns is giving more importance to his rivalry with the new Bloodline. Roman and Cody both have unfinished business, but it seems The Original Tribal Chief is willing to set that aside when it comes to taking revenge on the new Bloodline, by any means necessary.

This is why when Roman saw an opportunity to get revenge against the new Bloodline, he didn’t hesitate to interrupt their beatdown of Cody, prioritizing his feud with them over his rivalry with Rhodes.

#2. WWE might be planning for a brief alliance between these two

WWE Bad Blood 2024 is the next premium live event for the Stamford-based promotion, and it appears that Roman Reigns could wrestle at the show. On the other hand, with Cody Rhodes still holding the Undisputed WWE Championship, he currently has no challengers for his title. While many believe a tag team match could be set up for Bad Blood 2024, it seems unlikely, as Rhodes has expressed no interest in teaming with Roman. Tonight on the blue brand, Cody clearly stated that he was done with The Bloodline and he wanted no further part in their drama.

However, this still leaves room for a brief alliance between the two on SmackDown in the near future. This could happen if The American Nightmare aids Roman Reigns at some point during his feud with Solo Sikoa's Bloodline, especially when Reigns is outnumbered.

It could also be seen as Cody returning the favor for tonight’s show and for SummerSlam, where Roman unintentionally helped him.

#1. Roman Reigns is a babyface star

Another primary reason why Roman Reigns rescued the Undisputed WWE Champion on the SmackDown Season Premiere is that The Original Tribal Chief is now a babyface star. Typically, a heroic character is someone who not only plays the role of a hero but also saves others from villains. This could explain why Reigns saved Rhodes on WWE SmackDown.

Additionally, Roman and Cody currently share common enemies, and The Head of the Table has been seeking vengeance against the new Bloodline. The post-Steel Cage match angle not only allows Roman to solidify his role as a babyface but also provides him the opportunity to destroy The Bloodline and get his revenge.
