Following Ambrose's injury in December 2017, Rollins found himself in hot water. A brief run as the RAW Tag Team Champion alongside Jason Jordan and 'The Architect' was back to square one. Unsure of what the future would hold, Rollins inserted himself in the Men's Elimination Chamber Match with the winner guaranteed a shot at the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 34.

A 7-Man Gauntlet Match was set for the 2018 Elimination Chamber RAW go-home show. The match began with Rollins facing off against his Shield Brethren Roman Reigns in a solid singles match. The duo's impeccable in-ring chemistry was on display during the match, which ended when Rollins rolled Reigns up for a three-count. The match against Reigns was just an appetizer before what was to come next, a spectacular 30-minute match against John Cena.

Charlotte Flair to return and wrestle a CURRENT CHAMPION?

Cena and Rollins tore the house down in a classic back and forth with multiple false finishes. The Cenation Leader would finally fall to a Curb Stomp by Rollins. Rollins was eventually eliminated by Elias, but his hour-long performance in the match earned him rave reviews from both fans and critics. Rollins had re-established himself as the company's workhorse and his star-making performance in the match propelled him to the IC Title at WrestleMania 34.
