Seth Rollins battled his way to the final round for the new World Heavyweight Championship. The first round was against Shinsuke Nakamura and Damian Priest, where Rollins secured the victory after dropping Nakamura with a Pedigree. In the next round, he defeated Finn Balor via pinfall to advance to the finals.
Seth Rollins will go up against AJ Styles from SmackDown at Night of Champions for the World Heavyweight Championship. While The Phenomenal One has years worth of experience that should help him secure the victory, history has a different opinion.
This is the third time Seth Rollins will be a part of an inaugural match for a new belt. The last two times when The Drip God was in the inaugural match, he emerged as the champion for one of them. If history is evidence, Seth Rollins must be the winner of the new World Heavyweight Championship since it seems to be an alternating pattern where he wins one and loses one.
Seth Rollins' history with title inaugural matches
The first time The Visionary fought for a new title was for the NXT Championship, which was established in July 2012. Four wrestlers from the main roster and NXT each battled for the belt, and Rollins became the inaugural champion after finally defeating Jinder Mahal on July 26, 2012.
The second time this happened was for the WWE Universal Championship, which was established in July 2016. The match was between Seth Rollins and Finn Balor, and The Demon defeated The Visionary to become the first-ever WWE Universal Champion.
Now, he will be fighting for a third time for a new title, the World Heavyweight Championship, against AJ Styles, which will also be a record-breaking feat. Given the win-loss pattern, Rollins should walk away with the victory at Night of Champions. Even though The Phenomenal One could also be an excellent choice as an inaugural champion, the scales are seemingly tilted in Rollins’ favor.
However, if patterns don’t count in WWE, fans must also be aware of a technicality that indicates that Rollins could be the winner.
Triple H has announced the new World Heavyweight Championship will be exclusive to RAW. Between Rollins and Styles, the former is drafted to the red brand and the latter to the blue brand. It only makes sense that Seth Rollins should be the winner if the idea is to keep the title in the red brand as was announced by Triple H.
