2018 was quite an eventful year for WWE with several new superstars coming to the fore along with a few controversies as well. With the McMahons stating a change in the state of things on Raw and Smackdown, 2019 has countless storylines that could be worth going forward with.
While the opportunities are countless, a few scenarios though are bound to happen this year with the build-up to events being as such. Six NXT Superstars have already been confirmed to join the main roster in 2019 and crowd favourites such as Mustafa Ali and the Revival are being pushed by the WWE.
Here are six scenarios and storylines that are bound to take place in the WWE this year.
#6 Ronda Rousey vs Charlotte Flair vs Becky Lynch at Wrestlemania 35
Last year during the build-up to Survivor Series, Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey were at each other's throats, bragging about who the better champion was. While the two were set to face off at the pay-per-view, a legit injury to Lynch during a Smackdown invasion of Raw, saw Charlotte Flair take on Ronda Rousey. The match ended in Ronda victory but it came at a cost. Charlotte gave her a beating worth remembering, thus paving way for a storyline to slate three of the best female wrestlers in the company.
This all took a drastic turn when Ronda Rousey interrupted a triple-threat ladder match between the two and Asuka. Her intervention cost Becky and Charlotte the championship clearly indicating a headline match for possible Wrestlemania 35. It is unclear as of now as to whether it will be a triple threat match or one of Becky or Charlotte winning the Royal Rumble and challenging Ronda for the WWE Raw Women's Championship. It is one storyline that WWE has invested over time and it sure seems to guarantee them success at the Grandest Stage of them all.
It could also pave way for a Horsewomen be Horsewomen feud involving the likes of Duke, Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir, Sasha Banks and Bayley. The potential for this storyline is countless and would in all cases prove to be an instant hit amongst the WWE faithful.
#5 Finn Balor winning gold
It's kind of sad to see Finn Balor dwindle in the mid-card ever since his return in early 2017. The first-ever WWE Universal Champion, Balor has not been in any title picture since his WrestleMania match against the Miz and eventual winner, Seth Rollins and has been in low-key duels with Baron Corbin and currently with Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler. But with the current regime that states a change of things around the WWE, Finn Balor is sure to win gold, most probably the Intercontinental Championship.
Seth Rollins is set to be the new face of Monday Night Raw in the absence of Roman Reigns and that leaves Ambrose with a challenger. The WWE Universal Championship is also not out of his reach with the prospect of Balor winning the Royal Rumble and challenging Brock Lesnar being, highly rated amongst the WWE Universe. With a couple of possibilities on the offer, Finn Balor is sure to have a very good 2019.
#4 Surprise Royal Rumble Entries from NXT
Over the past couple of years, the Royal Rumble has served up a number of surprises right from the introduction of Tye Dillinger at number ten in 2017 to Rey Mysterio's entry in the 2018 edition of the Royal Rumble match.
NXT Superstars have also made the cut on a few occasions with Sami Zayn, Andrade 'Cien' Almas, Adam Cole and Kairi Sane making it to the Royal Rumble matches over the years enabling WWE creative to identify the reaction they garner amongst the fans.
This year, with the ever-growing talent amongst the NXT roster, we are sure to see a few familiar faces in the Royal Rumble match. Bianca Belair and Mae Young Classic finalist, Io Shirai are sure to compete in the Women's version of the Royal Rumble match. This is could be the ideal moment for WWE to unleash the Velveteen Dream and Ricochet upon the WWE fanatics. While the possibilities are endless, some of them are just bound to happen.
#3 Gallows and Anderson/The Revival winning tag team gold
WWE Creative has been criticized often due to their poor booking of superstars and why not? Both Gallows/Anderson and the Revival have done nothing of note in 2017 other than put over other tag teams in their respective rosters. But with a supposed change in WWE management and chances being provided for one and all, both tag teams have a great chance of tasting their first success on the main roster.
There is the possibility of AJ Styles reuniting with his pals, Anderson and Gallows and holding championships all at the same time but nothing is as exciting as the AOP feuding with the Revival once again, reliving some of their classics in NXT. Nonetheless, both of the tag teams have a solid chance at gold with the need of fresh faces holding championships being what the fans desire.
#2 Bayley and Sasha Banks: First Ever Women's Tag Team Champions
Bayley and Sasha Banks have had a tough 2018. Both of them are former RAW Women's Champions but have been overshadowed by the rise of Ronda Rousey. Their on-off relationship on screen has been subject to a lot of confusion with the fans wanting either of them to turn heel and go on an epic feud along the lines of Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano. But, all of that was put to waste when Mr McMahon announced that the introduction of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship in 2019.
On taking a deeper look at the possible candidates such as Mandy Rose/Sonya Deville, The IIconics and Riott Squad, Sasha Banks and Bayley look the obvious champions with the prior build between the two and even a promo where the duo wanted the Women's Tag Team Championship to be introduced. This is the most obvious of all the events that are bound to speculation in the WWE as of now.
#1 Seth Rollins winning the Universal Championship
Brock Lesnar has been the undisputed WWE Universal Champion for most of 2017 and 2018. With Roman Reigns' absence from WWE due to leukaemia, there hasn't been any program of worth involving the championship. While Braun Strowman is set to face the Beast Incarnate at the Royal Rumble PPV, Seth Rollins is earmarked by WWE management as the face of WWE.
Seth Rollins has had a stellar 2018 with Intercontinental and Raw Tag Team Championship Reigns to his name. With his latest segment involving Triple H indicating that Rollins is not going to be in the Intercontinental Championship scene any more, he showed off a more vicious side of himself and surely more that is needed on screen if he were to beat either Brock Lesnar or Braun Strowman for the coveted Universal Championship.
With the lack of Lesnar's presence hindering RAW's rating and proceedings, Seth Rollins could be the ultimate solution to all of these problems and is something that is quite inevitable.
