Here are 7 news items that you may have missed out on, this past week. One for every day of the week that was!
#1 Baron Corbin wants to team up with Randy Orton
Recently, we saw Braun Strowman enter the tag team division on RAW. Baron Corbin is not opposed to being a tag team superstar either. We had a chance to catch up with him for an interview. Here's what Corbin had to say about becoming a Tag Team superstar:
If they forced me, to be in the tag team division I would definitely have to pick Randy Orton. I think Randy is the best WWE has to offer and he has a record that proves it. He likes to cause some trouble and doesn't mind stabbing people in the back. He is also not afraid to get his hands dirty, so he'll definitely be my guy.
As intimidating as the thought of Corbin and Orton teaming up is, Corbin is the 'Lone Wolf'. Which essentially means that he does have aspirations in the singles division too. This is what he had to say about possibly switching over to RAW, following the superstar shake-up:
I think about this often because I wonder myself, and I really want to start making an impact on WWE. I think some of the guys on RAW like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman are running shop over there and I want to go there and see what they are made of.
#2 Elias has a huge surprise planned for WrestleMania 34
Move over, Kid Rock. This is the performance we're looking forward to, come WrestleMania. We caught up with Elias for an interview and he weighed in on a variety of topics.
The most interesting thing he said, however, concerned his secret WrestleMania plans. Elias plans on putting on the biggest performance yet. Something we've never seen:
At WrestleMania, the performance will be something that you've not seen Elias do yet. We call it the grandest spectacle of them all right? I'm the grandest performer on Monday Night RAW, I'm the grandest performer in WWE. It's only fitting that at WrestleMania, the biggest show we have, I put on the biggest performance you've ever seen.
For all his success, Elias also feels that he's nowhere close to where he should be. He's only begun his road to the summit.
#3 Kevin Sullivan revealed if WWE's monopoly could be challenged
We recently caught up with Kevin Sullivan for a special interview. The former WCW booker is now lending his expertise to independent promotion, PCW Ultra in the U.S. However, he did discuss a wide variety of topics with us. We asked him if the dominance of WWE could be challenged in 2018.
Kevin Sullivan was full of praise for 2018. However, this is what he had to say about there being a new WCW-like promotion, threatening WWE's dominance:
I do believe there's room for an alternative product. If somebody came along with the right backing on the television program, what you see in PCW Ultra would take off and do huge numbers.
He elaborated as to why he believed such to be the case:
WWE haven't really built a big star, in my mind, since John Cena. Roman Reigns, I guess, is the closest thing that they've got. But their background of bringing in young guys into the business is that they get them to a certain point and jump off them for a while.
Sullivan believes that if WWE had competition, they'd work just a little harder than ever before.
#4 The real reason Daniel Bryan missed Fastlane
Shane McMahon was an integral part of the proceedings at Fastlane. However, the General Manager of SmackDown Live, Daniel Bryan was nowhere to be seen. Don't worry. Everything's fine.
Bryan was at his cousin Billy's wedding. We learned this from Brie Bella's Instagram post. See it yourself, and rest easy, folks!
We're certain that Bryan will be a big part of the proceedings leading up to WrestleMania. We hope he's cleared in time for WrestleMania as well. A wrestler that good deserves to be allowed to wrestle!
#5 Matt Hardy spoke about Jeremy Borash joining WWE
Jeremy Borash was an integral part of the 'Broken' Universe on Impact Wrestling. Now he's a part of WWE, and from what we hear, will be involved with The Ultimate Deletion.
Matt Hardy weighed in on Jeremy Borash coming to WWE during an interview with SPORTbible:
Personally I am very glad that Jeremy Borash is here in WWE…He's got a great mind; a very creative person, a good friend of mine and he just deserves to work here. Coming to the WWE often validates your career in the business and he was kind of the glue that was keeping TNA together in many, many ways over the years.
Do you think WWE will be able to capture the craziness of the 'Broken' Universe in a 'Woken' environment? Do let us know in the comments.
#6 The Bar revealed an origin story
Can you guess why Cesaro and Sheamus don't do either a thumbs up or thumbs down, but a thumbs in the middle pose? On E&C's Pod of Awesomeness, Cesaro recalled how that came to be during a Meet and Greet in Germany:
Everyone turns up and, usually, you just put your fist up and "Grrr," like do your wrestler face or whatever. I think we just put our thumbs up and Sheamus mentioned how Trump may have ruined the thumbs up, so we just put the thumb in the middle.
What is the secret of their fantastic attire? Fear not for Sheamus revealed the answer to us:
The matching gear was a big thing, too. This didn't just happen overnight. It was progressional. We were still wearing our own stuff - then, at Mania, we changed to suit jakcets and the kilts, then we turned heel, then we were wearing the army jackets with the kilts. Then the next week, we had matching gear. Everything has dragged out so, for us, it has meant a lot more.
#7 John Cena's wedding is back on
We all saw John Cena get engaged to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania 33. The world couldn't wait for them to get married. Believe it or not, there was trouble in paradise. The wedding was almost called off.
'Almost' is the key word here. The wedding is back on. Cena spoke about the issues, on the TODAY show:
I think I can generalize it in saying that in relationships we have points of disagreement. And it was a point of disagreement where it seemed like we couldn't get past it.
That concludes our weekly recap. See you soon!
