The Full Sail Arena was packed to witness a tremendous night of television tapings for the WWE Network. All of the Superstars of tomorrow were gearing up to put on a show nobody would soon forget.NXT TakeOver: Houston was about to get a new name in the form of an old match concept.
Everything is coming to a head and things seem to be getting even more exciting in WWE's developmental territory than on the main roster. It might just appear that way, but it is certainly a growing opinion within the confines of the Internet Wrestling Community.
Let's get right to the action and see what NXT has in store for fans in the coming weeks.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#1 A huge battle Royal on the road to Takeover
No Way Jose had his chance to show what he can do. It's nice to see him win a match but it's not a surprise to see him kick off a show. After all his energy and enthusiasm is infectious and he really brings a high-energy attitude to the table.
No Way Jose could defeat Marcel Barthel in the opening contest. Barthel also went as Axel Dieter Jr and it was said to be a good start for the night
Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch teamed up to face Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss in the next match on the show. After a good match, Riddick Moss and Tino Sabbatelli came out on top.
The next match was a Women's Battle Royal to determine who would be going to NXT TakeOver: Houston to face Kairi Sane, Peyton Royce, and Ember Moon for the vacant NXT Women's Championship.
Some notable mentions in the match which some might find surprising were Mercedes Martinez, Santana Garrett, and Candice LeRae.
In the end, Nikki Cross came out victorious. William Regal entered the ring afterwards and was joined by all four women who will be in the big match at NXT TakeOver: Houston. He declared one of these women would be the next NXT Women's Champion.
#2 The Undisputed Era is looking for another addition
The Velveteen Dream jumped Aleister Black from behind during his entrance. The entire time he wanted Aleister Black to say his name like he was Destiny's Child or something.
Black opted not to say "Velveteen Dream" because nobody likes saying that. Instead, he chose to make a comeback with a few strikes and Dream ran toward the exit like a true heel.
If you remember Velveteen Dream as Patrick Clark on Tough Enough then you understand his passion to be a pro wrestler. He's living his dream in NXT and getting a considerable amount of heat in the process.
Andrade Cien Almas faced off against Roderick Strong next on the show. After a pretty good match, Andrade Cien Almas came out on top to leave Strong beaten in the ring. Not only did this match make Almas look really strong by beating a former NXT Championship contender like Roddy, but it set up this next amazing segment in the ring.
Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, and Bobby Fish went to the ring and offered a spot in their stable to Roderick Strong. Cole handed Roderick Strong an armband and left the ring in order to allow Strong to ponder his choices.
#3 The road to NXT TakeOver: WarGames continues
Nikki Cross defeated Taynara Conti in a short contest to supposedly start off the second television show. It would only stand to reason that Roderick Strong left standing in the ring holding the armband from Adam Cole would be the closing segment of the first episode being taped.
Fabian Aichner and Johnny Gargano had a match next and Johnny Wrestling lost. It's not really quite clear what their direction is for Gargano at this point, but let's hope they can figure something out for him soon enough.
Drew McIntyre and Andrade Cien Almas came out for a contract signing next and Almas jumped him. After beating down the NXT Champion, Andrade Cien Almas signs his portion of the contract.
#4 It's time for a huge announcement
Authors Of Pain faced off against SaNITy for the NXT Tag Team Titles. It was going all well and good until The Undisputed Era interfered in the match. Killian Dane ran in to make the save, but he was quickly overcome by the numbers game after his buddies in SaNITy had already been beaten down.
Then Roderick Strong ran down and acted like he was going to join The Undisputed Era but he turned on them instead. After that, a very exciting match was announced that people have been asking for.
It invited a match that would feature The Undisputed Era vs SaNITy vs Authors Of Pain and Roderick Strong. While this sounds like a nice match, what really makes it wonderful is the fact this was announced as a WAR GAMES MATCH for NXT TakeOver: Houston!
#5 More Superstars of tomorrow make their mark
Heavy Machinery defeated some enhancement talent to keep themselves in the game. They're a great team with a ton of charisma and ability. It's just that there are other teams in the top spot right now. But at least they're still winning on television.
Kairi Sane was up next and defeated Billie Kay. The outcome of this match should have been expected because Sane is getting a rocket strapped to her right now. But more than that, it also meant a warning shot fired at Kay's BFF and Sane's opponent in the Women's Fatal Four-Way match at NXT TakeOver: Houston. After all, Peyton Royce doesn't like seeing her bestie get beaten.
Velveteen Dream took on Cezar Bononi in the next matchup. Dream ended up defeating Cezar Bononi and after the match, he cut a promo on Aleister Black.
Velveteen Dream said at NXT War Games, Aleister Black will say The Velveteen Dream's name.
#6 New feuds are forged in NXT
The Street Profits squared off against Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins have been really coming together as a tag team recently and they proved it during the NXT television taping by coming out on top of this contest.
If WWE doesn't have big plans for Lars Sullivan it would be a huge surprise. He's going to be available as a downloadable character in the upcoming WWE 2k18 video game as well which is a huge notch in his belt. Lars Sullivan defeated Raul Mendoza at the taping to even further establish himself as a force to be reckoned with.
But Lars Sullivan didn't get a chance to beat down his opponent because Kassius Ohno ran out to make the save and take part in an extremely intense staredown.
#7 The NXT Championship scene heats up
Mercedes Martinez faced off against Ember Moon. These two had a pretty good match but since Ember Moon is in the big upcoming match at NXT TakeOver: War Games, then she went over in the match. It was still great to see Mercedes Martinez in a match like this. It was said both of these women were a joy to watch in the ring.
After this match was over, all four competitors who will face off in the NXT Women's Title fatal four-way match at NXT TakeOver: War Games had a moment in the ring to exchange a very tense moment.
NXT Champion Drew McIntyre came out next to address the crowd. McIntyre said Andrade Cien Almas is in trouble at NXT TakeOver: War Games. He turned an old phrase on its head when he discussed how everyone was trying to climb up a mountain, but it turns out Drew McIntyre is the mountain.
But Andrade Cien Almas came out and got the upper hand on the NXT Champion. He ended up laying McIntyre out while Zelina Vega stood over the former Chosen One and taunted up a storm.
#8 Everything is leading to WarGames
Roderick Strong faced off against fellow ROH alum Adam Cole in a match everyone was excited for. After declining Cole's invitation to join The Undisputed Era, Roderick Strong has a lot to prove.
Stong will be teaming up with Authors Of Pain and while that might be an odd assortment for a team it's no stranger than some pairing from pro wrestling's history. Adam Cole wanted some revenge because if it weren't for Strong's decision not to accept his offer then the War Games match might be a moot point.
The night ended with Roderick Strong defeating Adam Cole by disqualification. Authors Of Pain ran out to defend their War Games partner from a beatdown. Suddenly SaNITy joined they fray as an all-out brawl between the three teams broke out.
