Story behind Del Rio's win

The new World HeavyWeight Champion, Alberto Del Rio, won the title from The Big Show in an Last Man Standing match. Reports suggest that Del Rio won the match to shoot Del Rio up as the new Mexican star, with Rey Mysterio not being around and Sin Cara turning out to be a disappointment. Cara was ready to work this week, but was not used.

Apparently, the idea is to push Del Rio harder than Mysterio and Sin Cara to make a genuine Mexican draw out of him. To achieve this, Del Rio was made to survive a ton of punishment before coming back to win the Last Man Standing stipulation, that was added to the match on SmackDown.
