Over 19,858 WWE fans were present at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto this past weekend when Damian Priest and Seth Rollins brought the heaviest artillery to the ring during the title match. Every splash, smash, chop, and kick made the match an absolute nail-biter. Ultimately, The Archer of Infamy walked away with the victory.
Damian Priest's next challenger is Gunther at SummerSlam 2024. The Ring General earned the title opportunity by winning the King of the Ring Tournament in May 2024. The Austrian star has been preparing for this fight ever since he got his hands on the crown, and Priest needs to bring his A-game to The Biggest Party of The Summer. Interestingly, former World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins can be the one to help The Judgment Day member retain against the former Intercontinental Champion at the upcoming premium live event in Cleveland.
The Visionary almost defeated Damian Priest at Money in the Bank until Drew McIntyre cashed in the Money in the Bank contract. Upon cashing in, the match converted to a Triple Threat, but CM Punk's interference led to The Archer of Infamy successfully pinning The Scottish Warrior.
Since The Visionary lost, as per their gentlemen's agreement, Rollins couldn't challenge for the title as long as Priest is champion. However, on the latest episode of RAW, El Campeon told Seth to forget about their agreement.
Damian Priest informed Seth Rollins that he can have another shot at the title after he deals with Gunther at SummerSlam 2024. It is in Rollins' best interest to ensure Priest retains the title so that he can get the title shot immediately after the Biggest Party of The Summer. If The Ring General wins, there is no guarantee he will accept a challenge from The Visionary.
Furthermore, Gunther is known for holding titles for a prolonged period and can be considered a tough opponent. Since Rollins has already battled The Archer of Infamy once, he is confident he can take down The Judgment Day member in another title match.
Major botch was spotted during Damian Priest vs. Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank
Seth Rollins had pinned Damian Priest right before Drew McIntyre entered the arena with the Money in the Bank briefcase but The Archer of Infamy was apparently supposed to kick out. Given the referee knew the ending, he had to stop the count at two, even when Priest did not kick out. This left the WWE Universe in a frenzy and botch was clear to everyone.
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray addressed the botch while speaking on Busted Open Radio. He believes that Priest was knocked out which resulted him in being unable to kick out on time.
"I looked at Priest's eyes, and he looked away, and there was nothing there. He was out... I think Priest got knocked out for a quick second, thus why he couldn't kick out. That's the only thing that makes logical sense to me."
Furthermore, Bully Ray explained that the referee was in a tough spot with the count since he had to stop mid-way. If the referee hadn't stopped, everything that followed would have been affected, and all plans would have had to change.
