Ten Controversial Things WWE Must Do In The New Era

What are Vince McMahon's plans for the new era of WWE?
What are Vince McMahon's plans for the new era of WWE?

Let's be honest here.

The new era that The McMahon family has promised got off to a rocky start on both Raw and Smackdown Live, but that dosen't mean it has to be that way moving forward. In fact, with the promise of NXT call ups, giving fans what they want and fresh match ups, WWE could easily turn this around and make the new era something fans will remember.

Whether that actually happens or not remains to be seen and will won't become apparent until after the holiday season concludes, but one has to hope that WWE will actually follow up on their promises and deliver something fans will enjoy. With that being said, here are ten things they can do to make sure that fans will love the new era of WWE!

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

#10 Bring back the Championship Scramble

Who wants to see Lesnar lose in a Championship Scramble?
Who wants to see Lesnar lose in a Championship Scramble?

The Championship Scramble, which consists of a six person match with a time limit, was an interesting way to determine a champion in the past and could be useful again now. Of course the championship scramble format hasn't been used in years after WWE seemingly soured on the idea after only one night, but that doesn't mean they can't bring it back

In all honesty, the tradition of the Elimination Chamber match and The Royal Rumble match is becoming quite a tiring way to determine the championship picture heading into WrestleMania, and a championship scramble would be a nice shakeup. Beyond that, it keeps things interesting and more importantly, keeps fans guessing all the way to Mania!

In the end, a championship scramble is a nice way to finally take The Universal title off of Brock Lesnar without hurting him too much and it gives one of the younger stars a run with the title. Of course opinions will vary on who that deserving superstar should be and for how long they should hold the title, but anyone would be better than another year of Lesnar as champion.

#9 Send Nia Jax back to NXT

Nia Jax might still need some training down in NXT
Nia Jax might still need some training down in NXT

Nia Jax made a lot of enemies when she accidentally injured Becky Lynch with a stray punch during an episode of Monday Night Raw, but WWE still hasn't done anything about it! Furthermore, they let her keep her number one contender spot for The Women's title and she even had a match with Ronda Rousey for the belt at TLC

Of course she ultimately came up short to Rousey in what was a pretty one sided contest, but that doesn't feel like enough of a punishment for someone that has injured multiple superstars over her career. It also doesn't feel fair to the other main roster superstars that are in fear of being injured by Jax.

In the end, Jax would be much better off spending some time in the performance center and at NXT honing her craft. While some might see it as a bit of demotion, it does give WWE time to make her safe to work with again, which could go a long way in helping her with the rest of her career.

#8 Give Mustafa Alia a run with The US Title

Mustafa Ali would make a great United States Champion!
Mustafa Ali would make a great United States Champion!

Mustafa Ali gained all the momentum in the world when he pinned Daniel Bryan on Smackdown Live and what better way to capitalize on that than to eventually have him win The United States title? Not only is it a perfect showcase of his breathtaking moveset, it is also a way to make the US title division great again.

Beyond that, Ali has been doing nothing but impressing people ever since appearing on 205 Live and the company would be foolish not to continue on with it. Whether it leads to anything long term or not is anyone's guess, but striking while the iron is hot seems like a great idea.

It is also a great way to show the fans that anyone, regardless of size, can make it in the land of the giants, which might renew some of their faith in the product. Maybe WWE could even skip the United States title run and throw him into The WWE title picture for a while.

#7 Break up The New Day

Is it time for The New Day to finally break up?
Is it time for The New Day to finally break up?

WWE is very good at creating once in a lifetime moments and breaking up The New Day would be a good way to do something like that. Not only does it succeed in completely changing the tag team landscape and the midcard for the foreseeable future, it also finally gives these three a chance to shine on their own again.

Whether The WWE Universe wants to admit it or not, there is only so far The New Day can go as a team and they have just about reached that limit here. If nothing else, WWE has effectively milked everything they can out of the gimmick and its basically just running on fumes at this point. With that in mind, why not end it and do something else with the three?

Even if WWE wanted to keep The New Day around for the merchandise sales, the tag team prestige or even their comedy, there is going to come a day when The WWE becomes tired of all that and wants something more from them. In the end, shouldn't the company go ahead and break them up before the fans do get tired of them? Or risk tainting the team?

#6 Bring back Rob Van Dam

Should WWE bring back Rob Van Dam?
Should WWE bring back Rob Van Dam?

Whether he comes back for a few one off matches or takes part in WrestleMania 35, bringing back Rob Van Dam would be a great way to boost ratings! Not only that, his versatile move set is a crowd favorite, which will make for some interesting matchups on both Smackdown Live and Raw.

This doesn't mean he should have some high profile spot or even get a title shot, but WWE needs to bring back RVD in some kind of capacity. In all honesty, his frog splashes are breathtaking and his top rope kick into the barricade would be an amazing addition to whatever show they put him on!

It would also be a great opppurtunity to capitalize on some nostalgia for the older fans, which WWE hasnt been pandering to lately. In fact, RVD would be a great addition to 205 Live or could even be a great suprise entrant for The 2019 Royal Rumble. If nothing else, its worth a surpise pop and would be a fun way to boost ratings.

#5 Make Alexa Bliss The Raw GM

Let's be honest, Alexa Bliss should be Raw's new General manager!
Let's be honest, Alexa Bliss should be Raw's new General manager!

Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live are without General managers and while WWE might keep it that way for the time being, there is eventually going to come a time where they need someone in that on screen role again. In fact, with WrestleMania season coming up and a lot of important decisions needing to be made, a GM needs to be established soon

With that being said and with a limited number of options available for the spot, WWE should put Alexa Bliss as the new General Manager and turn her into a heel authority figure. Not only would that be the best way to create a meaningful power struggle on Raw again, it also is a good use for Bliss until she recovers from her concussion.

In the end, Bliss has just that natural ability to make fans hate her and that would make her perfect for the role of Raw GM. She is also brilliant on the microphone and can draw fans' attention no matter what segment she is a part of. Beyond that, having her as an on air authority figure means the McMahon family do not have to be there all the time.

#4 Don't Use John Cena

Does John Cena have a place in WWE's new era?
Does John Cena have a place in WWE's new era?

Although John Cena is one of the greatest WWE superstars of this generation, he is at a point in his career where movies and outside gigs are starting to become more important to him than WWE. Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with this, and Cena deserves the mainstream attention he is getting, but that doesn't mean he needs to be a part of the new era

Think about it! Cena has already had a countless number of career defining moments and doesn't need another one. In fact, WWE would probably be better off not having him appear much in the new era of the company and then give that time to a younger star. In the end, it allows WWE to focus on the future and that's what they ultimately need to do here.

Again, this doesn't mean Cena can't come back for a few special appearances and to have a high profile match every once in a while, but their days of relying on Cena to carry the company on his shoulders needs to be over. If not, they are just going to fall into the same situations they got in when Roman Reigns's leukemia came back.

#3 Move Finn Balor to Smackdown

Finn Balor would be a great addition to Smackdown Live!
Finn Balor would be a great addition to Smackdown Live!

Finn Balor has been stuck in the midcard on Monday Night Raw for a long time now, and while some fans are holding out hope that the company changes their mind on the Irish star, it doesn't look like that's going to happen. With that being said however, a move to Smackdown Live could offer him and his fans the opportunities they have been hoping for.

Of course it probably won't happen right away and Balor would have to work his way up the card on the blue brand a bit, but with superstars like Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, Jinder Mahal, Dean Ambrose and others getting a shot at the top prize on the blue brand, you would think Balor would have to be up there eventually.

Beyond that, Balor's high flying offense seems to suit Smackdown Live better and it would also open up the door to new opportunities. Whether those opportunities end up being a shot at the tag team titles, a run as United States champion, a main event spot alongside The Miz and Daniel Bryan or anything else, its better than what they are doing with him on Raw.

#2 Reunite Y2AJ

Should WWE reunite AJ Styles and Chris Jericho?
Should WWE reunite AJ Styles and Chris Jericho?

AJ Styles has had quite the run in WWE over the last couple of years and while he will likely not enter WrestleMania 35 as WWE Champion, he could do something just as cool. In fact, if WWE were somehow able to get to Chris Jericho back to WWE for a one off, they could reunite the team of Y2AJ.

Not only would that be a great thing for a tag team division that has been struggling lately to keep its head above water, its also a great chance for WWE to capitalize on nostalgia. Beyond that, Chris Jericho is one of the biggest veteran superstars that WWE has under their fold right now and bringing him back is always good for a cheer from fans.

In the end, The WWE hasn't done a lot in the nostalgia department lately and while sometimes doing so fails miserably, there are other times it succeeds beyond their wildest dreams. If nothing else, Y2AJ could be the perfect example of that and could shake up the tag team division for months to come!

#1 Have Ronda Rousey lose the Raw Women's Championship

Ronda Rousey might not be Raw Women's champion for much longer!
Ronda Rousey might not be Raw Women's champion for much longer!

It's no secret that Ronda Rousey could be set for a move to Smackdown to take on Becky Lynch and Charlotte, but that can only happen after she drops the Raw Women's title to someone else on the red brand. Maybe WWE could even have Lynch and Charlotte cost Rousey the title on the road to WrestleMania as a way to set up their WrestleMania 35 match

Either way, WWE needs to do something to set these three ladies up on a collision course and it seems like having Lynch and Charlotte cost Rousey the title is by far the best way to do it. Not only does it hand Rousey her first loss in a WWE ring, which is really big considering the run she has been on, it also makes personal between the three stars.

Beyond all that, they have to figure out how to move Ronda Rousey to Smackdown Live one way or another, and that unfortunately starts with her dropping the title. Then again, maybe WWE would be better off to write her off with a storyline injury, vacate the title and then have her move to Smackdown Live after WrestleMania 35.
