In the past, the Royal Rumble had not been graced with the excellence of the WWE women's division very often. Although solid bouts with Charlotte Flair, Bayley, and Paige have transpired, there were never any truly unforgettable matches at the show. But the opener of Royal Rumble 2019 was an exciting first time ever singles contest where Asuka defended the SmackDown Women's Championship against the former champion, Becky Lynch.
Two of the most popular ladies in the company met with gold on the line and delivered a compelling battle that had a brilliant blend of competition and physicality.
