Due to an injury to Mustafa Ali before the Elimination Chamber 2019 pay-per-view, Kofi Kingston of the New Day found himself entered into the Chamber and Gauntlet match prior to the show. Kingston's performance in the Gauntlet propelled his popularity and gave him the chance to force his way onto the biggest show of the year.
Although Kingston lost the Chamber match, his performance in that encounter put himself on track to face WWE Champion Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35. Obstacle after obstacle was put in front of Kingston by Vince McMahon and Daniel Bryan prior to the event. However, it was his fellow New Day members who helped him get there by winning a tag team Gauntlet match in the weeks prior.
