In the 1980s, there were very few stars, male or female, who could compete with the popularity of Wendi Richter.
In July 1984, Richter did the unthinkable, when she entered the 30+ year reign of the Fabulous Moolah, to capture the company's Women's Championship.
A two-time champion, things sadly took a turn for the worse in the original screwjob many years before Montreal.
Facing a new opponent called 'the Spider Lady', Richter was booked to win the match, but a quick roll-up by the Spider and fast count by the ref cost her the title, with Moolah being revealed as the masked opponent.
Seeing this as a huge betrayal, Richter instantly left the company, vowing never to wrestle for WWE again, a promise she kept.
In 2010 though, Richter did make a return, being rightly inducted into the Hall of Fame.
