#1 Cesaro
The King of Swing is consistently one of, if not, the best in-ring performer in WWE. Just when you think you’ve seen everything in his arsenal, he’ll pull out something new from his bag of tricks. To put it simply, The Swiss Superman is badly under-utilised.
After missing out on the first few months of 2016 due to injury, he returned the night after WrestleMania 32 to a great reception. What has followed are months of frustrating booking and missed opportunities. He had several shots at the Intercontinental Championship but lost all three times.
One of these was a match of the year contender, which saw him battle Kevin Owens, The Miz and Sami Zayn at WWE Extreme Rules. No matter what situation he’s inserted in, he makes it infinitely better. For example, he played a huge part in ensuring the Survivor Series Elimination Tag Match was as good as it was.
He also had a series of entertaining battles with Sheamus – a match which the WWE Universe has seen countless times. It can even be argued that Cesaro has begun to show more personality since teaming with Sheamus.
However, as much as the recent bar brawl with The Celtic Warrior was hugely entertaining, Cesaro should be moving on to better things. Perhaps, the most baffling moment for Cesaro in 2016 was the WWE Draft. It was well documented that SmackDown Live would be a more wrestling-centric show.
With that in mind, it seemed The King of Swing and the blue brand would be a match made in heaven, but of course, he found himself drafted to Raw. Raw may be the flagship show, but Cesaro is more likely to be in the World title scene on SmackDown Live. Instead, he’s languishing in the mid-card on Monday nights.
Mr McMahon has made it clear that Cesaro’s problem is his lack of charisma. Sure he’s not red hot on the microphone like Enzo Amore or The New Day, but Cesaro’s in-ring work electrifies the crowd and forces fans to get behind him.
In all honesty, Cesaro would have made this list for the last few years, as WWE has never let him fulfil his potential, as a true main event star. It’s certainly not a coincidence that legends such as Ric Flair, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mick Foley all believe The Swiss Superman is the real deal.
If WWE never gets around to pulling the trigger on Cesaro, and allowing him a World Championship run, then it may go down as one of the biggest missed opportunities in wrestling history.
