After nearly a decade in the business, Dean finally got his big break when he was offered a developmental deal with WWE.
He was assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling, the precursor to NXT, and was also assigned a gimmick change. No longer would Ambrose come to the ring in tattered jeans and a t-shirt, but rather a traditional pair of wrestling tights.
Ambrose's technical side was stressed, but his growling, aggressive interviews soon resulted in a more dangerous persona, which he fully developed during his run with FCW
