#12 Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton – WWE Championship
Randy Orton joined the Wyatt family back in November of last year and looked to be pretty devoted to the self-proclaimed God. After winning the 2017 Royal Rumble, Orton refused to face Wyatt, stating his devotion to the WWE Champion and leaving Orton without a main event match.
However, not long after, Orton would once again turn face, burning down the Wyatt compound and setting alight Sister Abigail’s remains. He then outlined his intentions to face Wyatt at WrestleMania 33 for the WWE Championship.
While Orton had been sticking with Wyatt, AJ Styles had been named number one contender so Orton had to face the phenomenal one to find out once and for all who would progress to WrestleMania to face Wyatt for the belt. Orton came out on top in this match, and the stage was set.
What has followed over the last couple of weeks, is the character development of Wyatt into something more dangerous and sadistic than he already was. Covering himself in Sister Abigail’s ashes and claiming to now have her power was extremely unsettling to watch, making the build to the match all the more exciting.
On the latest episode of SmackDown, a group of Wyatt’s followers, all dressed in sheep’s masks, attacked Orton and held him down as Wyatt explained Sister Abigail is now a part of him, and he is more dangerous than ever before as what was once his weakness, is now his biggest strength.
I wish there had been more of a supernatural build up to the match Wyatt had against the Undertaker a couple of years ago. This has been brilliant so far, as the WWE Champion is indeed being built to look unbeatable at WrestleMania due to the new powers he now possesses.
It’s good to see that even with the apparent death of kayfabe, WWE is still willing to go out on a limb and bring us a captivating story, allowing us to suspend our disbelief for the moments Wyatt is on screen.
I would expect to see some supernatural goings on at WrestleMania itself, and there could be interference from either Luke Harper or Erick Rowan, who has been cleared to return following time off for an injury.
The result of the match is very hard to call, but I’d like to think the Eater of Worlds can tear the head off The Viper and retain his WWE Championship at WrestleMania.
