Goldberg and Lesnar will be competing at WrestleMania for the second time in their careers, albeit 13 years apart. Goldberg picked up the win at WrestleMania XX in what was widely considered to be the worst match on the card. The crowd weren’t into it, the wrestlers weren’t into it, and it was a failure in every sense of the word.

Things are different this time.

When WWE 2K17 was being promoted, one of the taglines was ‘fantasy warfare’. This was in part because Lesnar was on the cover and Goldberg was a pre-order bonus. WWE decided to capitalise on this and make fantasy warfare a reality for the WWE Universe.

At Survivor Series 2016, Brock Lesnar faced Goldberg in a one-on-one match that was highly anticipated as it was their first meeting since WrestleMania XX. Goldberg squashed Lesnar in 86 seconds after two spears and a Jackhammer.

This was due to Goldberg having ring rust and therefore not wanting to take too many bumps, as well as a slight shoulder injury he was nursing.

Despite Goldberg initially pitching this as his one return to the ring, he went on to announce himself into the Royal Rumble match. Paul Heyman, Lesnar’s advocate, believed that Goldberg would get his comeuppance at the pay-per-view event.

Nevertheless, Lesnar was embarrassed once again by his rival, as he was eliminated from the Royal Rumble match a few minutes after Goldberg had entered.

This led to Lesnar challenging Goldberg to a match at WrestleMania which The Myth accepted. However, Goldberg also challenged Kevin Owens for his Universal Championship at WWE Fastlane. Goldberg managed to capture the Championship from Owens, making his bout against Lesnar at WrestleMania, for the WWE Universal Championship.

Both competitors met last week on Raw and Brock got the better of Goldberg this time, delivering an F5 to the Universal Champion. They will have one final showdown next week on Raw. There are sure to be fireworks!

I’m not so sure this match needed to be for the Universal Championship. It was special enough in my opinion, and it takes the top title away from Kevin Owens, who has carried the Raw brand for the past six months. It seems a little out of order.

Furthermore, it pretty much spoils the result. If you weren’t sure Brock was going to win, then you should be now. Hopefully it won’t be a squash match, and hopefully, it won’t take the main event spot as it just isn’t that important to me. If anything, it has devalued the title.
