#3 John Cena and Nikki Bella vs. The Miz and Maryse

This strange rivalry came about at the SmackDown Live exclusive pay-per-view event, Elimination Chamber 2017. During a backstage scuffle, Natalya shoved Nikki Bella into Maryse inadvertently, spoiling her outfit and makeup. At the time, it looked like a throwaway scene, but it was to give motivation for the feud.
In the actual Elimination Chamber match, Cena eliminated The Miz from the Chamber. The Miz would return the favour the next night on SmackDown when he eliminated Cena from a number one contender’s Battle Royal for the #1 contendership to the WWE Championship.
What followed were segments on both Talking Smack and Miz TV where the two teams would lay into each other to build the feud. There has been minimal physical contact in this programme.
The Miz has been taunting Cena for becoming what he said he hated and leaving the WWE for Hollywood, whereas John struck back at the Awesome One by claiming he stole his persona from other wrestlers. The Miz would go much more personal and bring in things that have been issues on Total Divas, such as John’s reluctance to get married.
Due to the non-stop verbal sparring, Daniel Bryan made the mixed-gender tag match for WrestleMania 33.
I think this could have been booked out a little better. I would split them both up and have Cena face Miz separately and have Nikki face Maryse in a singles match. I think this would have made more sense, and the John Cena / Miz match would have had an extra buzz to it, given their history when Miz was WWE Champion.
I believe the talent involved are deserving of much more than their current bout. Cena is a veteran and deserves a good match, and The Miz has carried SmackDown for the last few months.
Their combined experience should allow them to achieve something special still, but I’m apprehensive.
