Brock Lesnar captured the WWE Championship by defeating The Rock at SummerSlam in 2002.

The next man in line to take on Brock Lesnar was The Undertaker, who battled Brock Lesnar in numerous pay-per-views for the WWE Championship. The animosity between the two reached an all-time high at No Mercy in 2002 where they battled inside the cell.
