Many of the wrestling fans wouldn’t be much surprised when they see Undertaker make headlines in the WrestleMania season. But unlike the previous year, this time Taker has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
The company is ridiculously delaying his return which is driving each and every fan in the WWE Universe crazy. Though big names like John Cena, Brock Lesnar and Batista have been in the list to kick off a possible feud with the Phenom, Taker returning so near to the Elimination Chamber is going to hurt the freedom of the writers to notch up a credible buildup.
A Cena- Taker encounter at WrestleMania is sure to put the Streak in jeopardy but the Cenation leader from the looks of it is heading for a feud with Bray Wyatt. The fact that Taker can’t be inserted into the roster as a champion scratches the Batista- Taker match out of the list as well.
This leaves Lesnar as the possible opponent for Taker since he is the only big name in the company without any direction.
However, the opponent choosing would only be the basic step.
The tainted writers who have been criticized for their inconsistent booking throughout last year will be given less than five weeks to build up a good enough story that has to stand out as the ticket seller for WrestleMania.
With not much tools at their disposal, the best way for the creative to book Lesnar and Undertaker would be to use Paul Heyman as the top catalyst.
Arguably the best non-wrestler and microphone worker in the company, Heyman has a rich history with the Phenom with the latest being last year’s WrestleMania match between CM Punk and Undertaker.
The backbone of the storyline could be this: A Paul Heyman guy couldn’t do it last time so Heyman just got a better guy to get the job done.
Along with argument Heyman could also conjunct that since Lesnar can’t get his shot at the WWE World Heavyweight title, he deserves to get the next best thing at WrestleMania which is The Undertaker and his streak.
Fans wouldn’t mind seeing Heyman and Taker lock horns once again with Brock Lesnar complementing the chaotic genius. Physical presence of Lesnar would make the Taker look inferior which could aid a potential success story.
It’s going to need a lot of taunting from Heyman to drag Taker into the match but a person of Heyman’s ability would make work look easy by digging deep into the wounds of Taker that he doesn’t want to remember even in his darkest nightmares.
Once he accepts the challenge, a battered up ageing Taker would hide behind his supernatural mind games because that’s the best he could do in front of a Beast like Lesnar. Like Lesnar destroyed Big Show, Mark Henry and the Rhodes Brothers he would make fans feel sorry about seeing Undertaker being man handled.
So throughout the buildup the creative could project Taker like a guy who stands no chance standing up to Lesnar due to his age and injuries.
This sort of buildup will eventually set the stage high and make the fans believe that that Taker’s streak might be coming to an end after all these years.
Setting the stake high would naturally give a great launching pad for the match.
Lesnar and Taker could then work on an intelligently booked encounter which can end with Taker rising above the odds and giving Lesnar the last ride. Being weak in the buildup will add more back story for Taker’s win making him look like a warrior who rose from the dead and thus backing his dead man gimmick.
There are not many options for the creative to throw in this case since there isn’t much time to build a burning storyline so this might be the best way to book these two top dogs so that the look at least presentable when WrestleMania arrives.
