#2. The Montreal Screwjob takes place at WWE Survivor Series - November 9th 1997

Perhaps the most controversial WWE event of all time, the Montreal Screwjob took place at Survivor Series 24 years ago.

Ahead of the show, the main event was Bret Hart taking on Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship. This was The Hitman's final match ahead of his heavily publicized move over to WCW.

Vince McMahon had already been hit hard by the fact that Alundra Blayze took the Women's Championship over to WCW and put it in the bin, so he was pushing hard to make sure this wasn't repeated.

The rest has obviously become one of the most talked-about pieces of WWE history. Michaels locked Hart into the Sharpeshooter and even though he didn't tap, the bell rang.

The title changed hands and Hart was livid. It was later revealed that Hart went on to punch McMahon in the face before walking away from the company. It took more than a decade to fix things between Hart, Michaels and McMahon, which later led to a match between Hart and McMahon at WrestleMania 26.
