3. The Brothers of Destruction vs. DX Headlining
Everything about this match bellowed that it is time for the four to retire. Shawn Michaels’ return was not the biggest story of the night. The Brothers of Destruction’s feud with DX was not the biggest story of the night either. A new Universal Champion was crowned, and a World Cup Winner was determined.
However, this match with four men well past their prime headlined a pay-per-view over Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman and AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe. This main event tag team match was slow, lumbering and should have been earlier in the card somewhere between the two WWE Championship matches.
While fans love nostalgia, this match was further indication that WWE refuses to invest in their talent-filled roster. The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Kane, and Triple H, all in the same match seems like a sports entertainment fan’s dream match…ten years ago. However now, these old timers are taking the attention from some of the best wrestlers in the word.
The WWE is risking losing their top talent because they refuse to have faith in them and build top stars. The echo throughout WWE Crown Jewel was that the WWE is unwilling to let their top stars have the spotlight.
This can prove to be detrimental to the company overall as Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and countless others have the ability to take the WWE into the next generation.
