The rivalry between Adam Cole and Aleister Black turned extremely personal heading into NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia. With the event taking place in Philly, WWE decided to make their encounter an Extreme Rules Match. Cole had a lot of experience in this stipulation due to his time in CZW, while Black was a fighter and ready for the no rules nature of the bout.

The Philadelphia crowd was even split between the two men. There were a wide array of weapons used here, from kendo sticks to chairs to ladders. At one point, Adam Cole's hand was cut and trainers had to check on it. Black looked like he was getting the upper hand until Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish interfered. Sanity, however, came down and evened the odds.

With it back to the two participants, Aleister Black hit a crazy meteora off the guardrail on Adam Cole through the announce table at ringside. Both men made their way back into the ring where Cole caught Black with a superkick. He looked to follow up with a steel chair, but Black hit the Black Mass with the chair in front of Cole for the win.

The Philadelphia crowd was heavily into this bout and got louder as this Extreme Rules Match progressed. This was a great encounter that used the stipulation superbly. Aleister Black and Adam Cole proved themselves as main eventers and top stars for the NXT brand in this battle.
