In what has to be one of the most astonishing surprises in wrestling history, Chris Jericho appeared in NJPW to call out Kenny Omega.
In a world where genuine surprises are few and far between, Jericho's return to Japan outside of WWE was a momentous occasion.
For someone on the level of Chris Jericho to set up a match with Kenny Omega, who was one of the hottest wrestlers on the planet, and keep it under wraps was a fantastic achievement.
Chris Jericho had left WWE before, but he always returned and even stated that he would never work for another company. So when he showed up in Japan, it was a massive moment and would be the first time Jericho wrestled for any other company in 19 years.
Kenny accepted Jericho's challenge for a match at Wrestle Kingdom 12 for the IWGP United States Championship. The feud was dubbed "Alpha vs. Omega" and became the central talking point of the wrestling business.

There were rumblings of a new wrestling company forming long before AEW was officially announced.

On February 2nd, 2019, at AEW's press conference, Jericho stunned the wrestling world when he was announced as the newest and biggest star signed to their fledgling roster.
His signing was a bombshell and a huge statement from AEW and was one that has certainly paid off. Chris Jericho is a household that has mainstream appeal and kudos with the independent fans.
