In professional wrestling, often at times you don’t get enough credit for the sacrifices you make. All the performers and superstars leave their families and friends behind, working hurt every day to make sure the fans get their money’s worth.
Professional wrestling is unrelenting, and can deprive you of everything once you fall out of love with it. These performers can’t do anything else, as they spend a major part of their life honing the craft and perfecting their skills.
Saying so, professional wrestling has seen its fair share of performers who never got their due in the business. Every generation has those few wrestlers who play second fiddle, even after being some of the most talented individuals to get mainstream attention.
Every promotion had those exceptional wrestlers, who couldn’t make it big because they were either too ‘bland’ or not too good on the mic. Although there were those who were charismatic and were good talkers, they were pushed aside for the more ‘marketable’ people.
In this series, we look at ten such performers who were grossly under rated due to various reasons.
Today, we start from number 10. He was someone who oozed charisma, and was loved by the entire industry. When he got his big break in the then WWF, he created shockwaves, making a name for himself in the wrestling industry.
He was immediately pushed, and the fans gave their nod to make him one of WWF’s biggest stars. He was also involved in one of the best ladder matches of the 90s, taking on Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 10. He is none other than the original bad guy of professional wrestling, Razor Ramon a.k.a Scott Hall.
Many wrestling fans and critics agree that Scott Hall should’ve been a WWF champion during his first run. Hall was well over with the fans, and had the charisma and the in-ring skills to be the face of the company.
Hall is regarded as one of the best WWF Intercontinental champions in the 90s, and had put on some classic matches against the likes of Shawn Michaels. Everything was going in Hall’s favour, until his personal demons took control of his life and made him lose everything he worked so hard for.
Hall’s personal and professional life became a mess, and Hall was released from the WWF.
Hall would later return to the WWE after Vince McMahon bought WCW, but it was evident that he wasn’t the same person anymore. Hall’s health deteriorated, and he was sent to rehab. With constant relapses, one of the most charismatic individuals retired without ever winning “the big one”.
His career spiraled downwards, and there was nothing anybody could do to stop it. His career in WCW saw him win various titles, and he was one of the original members of the New World Order. But like in the WWF, he wasn’t used properly in WCW, as it was all about the Nashs and the Hogans.
Laced with gold, a bad attitude, different accent and a toothpick to round it off, Hall fit the bill of a big guy who could work perfectly.
What should’ve been a great career resulted in Hall being one of the most underutilized performers in his prime. With the WWF never giving Hall an opportunity to go for the WWF championship, the fans consider him one of the biggest names to have never held the WWF title.
Although he was never be a WWE champion, Scott Hall has found a special place in the hearts of the wrestling fans, as one of the most talented individuals the business has ever seen.
This places him at number 10 in our list of the top 10 underrated superstars in the history of the WWE.
