This year was the 31st SummerSlam event presented by WWE and a total 16,169 fans attended the show. SummerSlam was headlined by Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, with Reigns defeating The Beast for Universal Championship and ending his 504-day long reign.

SummerSlam got good reviews from critics for match results and match quality. On the same night, Ronda Rousey became the first woman to hold UFC and WWE women's title. The card also included a match between Daniel Bryan and The Miz, while AJ Styles clashed with Samoa Joe for WWE championship.
