However, not every great wrestler in WWE has won a world championship; even some Hall of Famers could never get their hands on the prestigious title. It may seem difficult to forge a storied career in WWE without winning a few world titles along the way, but it’s not impossible.
Here we take a look at five current superstars who are void of a world title but have still stood the test of time.
Honorable Mentions: R-Truth and Shelton Benjamin
#5 Goldust
Goldust is one of the most mysterious characters in WWE history. He became the biggest heel soon after making his debut in the 90s. He was innovative and used to get massive crowd heat; plus, he put on great matches against the likes of Triple H and Roddy Piper. His push was dropped apparently due to backstage heat after which WWE parted ways with him.
After making his return to the company in 2013, he was dropped to the mid-card and could never really get over. He's slowly become a jobber and is only responsible for putting younger talent over.
Between WWF/E and WCW, Goldust has over 20 title reigns, but the prestigious World Championship still eludes him. It is highly unlikely for him to win the title now, considering he is way past his prime age. Though a guaranteed future Hall of Famer, Goldust will go down as one of the best wrestlers to never become a World Champion.
#4 Matt Hardy
Matt Hardy made his debut in 1998 when the Attitude Era was at its peak. The Hardy Boyz - formed with his brother Jeff Hardy - then jumped to the tag-team division and soon became the fan favorites. After the team split up, Jeff became the WWE and World Heavyweight Champion but Matt never followed suit.
Matt was always seen as a tag-team wrestler; he never really got pushed as a singles competitor. His recent "Woken" Matt Hardy gimmick has finally given him the recognition that was long overdue. Now is maybe the time to capitalize on the moment and give him a World Championship opportunity that will finally complete his career in the company that began 20 years ago.
#3 Rusev
After joining the main roster in 2014, Rusev emerged as a monstrous heel who had an undefeated streak of 146 days. After his streak ended, he failed to get a solid push and dropped down to being a punching bag and putting other wrestlers over.
His run as a United States Champion was also short-lived, as he lost the title to Roman Reigns only a few months later. The creative team was then unsuccessful in giving him a proper storyline.
His recent "Rusev Day" gimmick is getting a lot of support from the fans, and WWE should see this as a new opportunity for him to be the top superstar that he was destined to be. His in-ring skills are as good as anyone else's, and a World Championship run will be a huge boost for his career.
#2 Kofi Kingston
Since debuting in WWE, Kingston has won 14 total championships. He is a four-time Intercontinental Champion, a three-time United States Champion, and a seven-time Tag Team Champion. One of the best high-flying wrestlers in the company, Kingston has had many great feuds with the likes of Randy Orton, Dolph Ziggler, and Chris Jericho.
He is decent on the mic and is having the best run of his life as a member of the New Day. He is well known for his high-flying moves around ladders, and his Royal Rumble elimination escape moments.
Kingston, who would probably go down as one of the best tag team wrestlers ever, has enough to be worthy of becoming a World Champion. After all, that's the only title left for him to win in WWE to complete his Grand Slam.
#1 Cesaro
There is no wrestler in WWE more deserving to be a World Champion than Cesaro. The Swiss Superman has been in WWE for around six years now. A record five-time Raw Tag-Team Champion, he is probably the best in-ring technician the company has.
Cesaro should have been a main card player by now in WWE. He puts on great matches week after week, but has been vastly underappreciated and has not been given proper recognition for his efforts.
He is an exciting prospect for fans of wrestling, but somehow he has not yet made it to the top table in WWE. A gifted athlete like him deserves at least one run as a World Champion, if not more.
