Extreme Rules 2013 was special for the Shield. After causing destruction for six months, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns challenged Team Hell No for their tag titles, and Dean Ambrose challenged Kofi Kingston for the United States Championship at Extreme Rules.

In the second match of the night, Dean Ambrose became the first Shield member to win main roster gold after defeating Kofi Kingston. His Shield brothers did not have to wait long before defeating Team Hell No to be crowned as the new tag team champions.
