By 1997 Rey was a big star in WCW's cruiserweight division while Eddie was making a name for himself as a major heel within the division. The two met in a Mask vs Title match at Halloween Havoc in 1997. This match is world-famous for being the best match in both men's careers and one of the best matches ever. WCW announcer Tony Schiavone called it "One of the greatest title matches in PPV history"

The match ran for no longer than 14 minutes but there was not a dull moment during this bout. The chemistry between Mysterio and Guerrero was unbelievable. This match is an example of why WCW's cruiserweight division was so popular in the late 90's.
