The last week in the world of wrestling has been one inundated with big news and crazy rumors giving the WWE Universe enough gossip and speculation to last a lifetime, and we're only two weeks into the year!
So without further ado, once you've reminded yourselves of what everyone was talking about in the wrestling world the week before with the top five rumours from January 8th, 2018 let's go right ahead and look at some of the unbelievable stories that surfaced over the last week.
#5 Paige's wrestling career is over
This story, although considered as fact by many, is still just a rumour until official confirmation is given, either by Paige or by the WWE and is one that has dominated the wrestling discussion over the last week.
The shocking news of Paige being forced to retire from in-ring action due to injury seemed to come from nowhere. No sooner had we reported that she might miss the Royal Rumble match due to an injury she sustained at a house show, the news was breaking out that her wrestling career was over.
Paige herself remains confident of a return to the ring, at least if this Instagram post is anything to go by. But with sites like PWInsider and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter weighing in to confirm the story, it looks like Paige's career has been cut tragically short.
#4 Stephanie McMahon returning to the ring?
Vince McMahon's daughter, and current Commissioner of Monday Night RAW, Stephanie McMahon hasn't wrestled since 2014, but her recent Instagram activity has sparked rumors that she's preparing for a return to the ring.
Why? Well, she seems to be working out an awful lot and posting the videos on Instagram with the hashtag #WrestleMania attached to them, which seems like an obvious attempt suggest Stephanie is training hard in order to return at 'The Grandest Stage of Them All'
The current speculation seems to be aimed towards Stephanie McMahon attempting to get revenge by potentially having a match against Ronda Rousey who embarrassed her several 'Manias ago
#3 Two WrestleMania main events set in stone
Speaking of WrestleMania, that brings me to the rumours that not one, but two, of the event's biggest marquee matches, are all but guaranteed, with one being fairly obvious and one that may come as a shock to some.
The first being Roman Reigns taking on Brock Lesnar, a match that seems to be about five years in the making now! But nevertheless, Dave Meltzer at the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggested this match was going to happen.
The second match that Dave put forward as set in stone was John Cena vs The Undertaker in a 'Mania main event that might be a few years too late, but definitely hotly anticipated regardless.
#2 Impact Wrestling talents heading to WWE
Whilst the WWE are set to announce their new intake of wrestling talent within the next week, with done deals being reported between the company and Ricochet, War Machine and Candice LeRae. Many are wondering if some of the recently released Impact Wrestling talents will be announced among them.
In fact, at the most recent round of tapings, several of Impact Wrestling's top stars departed the company, with EC3, Chris Adonis (Masters), Bobby Lashley and Laurel Van Ness all reportedly wrapping up their contracts, as well as the previously released James Storm and Rockstar Spud.
Naturally, we shouldn't be at all surprised to see any or all of these names appear in a WWE ring in the near future, especially with the heavily WWE-linked Rockstar Spud dropping hints like this.
#5 Another big Monday Night RAW injury
Monday Night RAW seems to be beset with injuries at the moment, there's the aforementioned Paige injury that seems to have ended her career, the Samoa Joe foot injury that will see him miss the Royal Rumble, and now there's another rumoured injury to add to the list.
Last week Jason Jordan missed a WWE house show, seemingly abandoning his partner Seth Rollins, meaning that Roman Reigns had to step in and save the day.
It has since been reported by PWInsider that Jason Jordan is in fact injured, with a currently unknown injury making his status on Monday Night RAW, including his scheduled tag-title defence and general appearance at the Royal Rumble also a doubt. Of course, nothing has been confirmed by the WWE yet so we'll have to wait and see.
