As reported earlier, the reason for AJ Styles being moved to SmackDown was his backstage heat with then RAW Executive Director Paul Heyman. Although, Heyman is no longer the ED of RAW, AJ Styles has already become a focal point of SmackDown since returning.

Dave Meltzer of WON revealed that the reason for heat between Heyman and AJ Styles had something to do with the firing of Styles' friends and former teammates, Gallows and Anderson.

Actually the reason was that he was furious that Gallows & Anderson were fired. Blamed Heyman. Classic case of JR/JJ/Laurinaitis syndrome. Vince is the one who made the decision but I suppose he felt Heyman could have fought him on it. So he wanted to go to the side where the guy in charge isn't fighting Vince on something like that either.

Former RAW Tag-Team Champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson were two of the multiple Superstars released by WWE due to budget cuts after the COVID-19 pandemic began.
