Funny how Carmella goes from absolutely hated to beloved in a matter of months.

Wrong place, wrong time.

That's was pretty much the reason why Carmella was so disliked by The WWE Universe in 2018, but her diva-like persona didn't make things much better either. Carmella also beat Charlotte Flair for the title and then successfully defended the title against Asuka twice, which only rubbed fans the wrong way further.

Beyond that, she was paired with James Ellsworth for much of her run with the title and he only served to muddy things up even more Not only was that evident by how they used him to help Carmella retain the title on multiple occasions, but also by how lackluster the women's division was at that time.

In the end, Carmella defined herself as a diva in a women's era and that just wasn't a good look for The WWE. Of course, Carmella has now become a fan favorite with her dance break gimmick and even teamed up with R-Truth to win the WWE Mixed Match Challenge, but it wasn't too long ago that she was showered in a chorus of boos every night.
