The 2008 Royal Rumble was the 21st annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view produced by WWE. The PPV was held on January 27, 2008, at Madison Square Garden in New York. WWE produced six matches for the pay-per-view, although the Royal Rumble match was the highlight of the show. John Cena won the 2008 Royal Rumble by eliminating Triple H last. The previous year's Royal Rumble in 2007 was won by "The Deadman" the Undertaker.

The Undertaker was the 2007 Royal Rumble winner who eliminated Shawn Michaels last for the win. However, in 2008, the last two men who stood in the 2007 Royal Rumble started the match. Taker entered number 1 followed by Shawn Michaels. Taker had a tough fight right from the start and eliminated three, including Santino Marella, The Great Khali, and Snitsky. He lasted 32 minutes and 33 seconds before being eliminated by Shawn Michaels as the 11th competitor to exit the match.

Other highlights of the 2008 Royal Rumble

John Cena returned after an injury layoff and eventually won the Rumble by eliminating Triple H. Batista lasted longer in the ring with a total of 37 minutes and 46 seconds. Triple H eliminated the most with six eliminations including Cody Rhodes, Big Daddy V, Mick Foley, Elijah Burke, Kane, and Batista. Additionally, Hall of Famers Jimmy Snuka and Roddy Piper entered the Royal Rumble match at 18 and 19, respectively. But their time in the ring was cut short when Kane eliminated them.

The Undertaker won the 2008 Elimination Chamber and challenged Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXIV to become the World Champion. The event also saw Shawn Michaels have a match with Ric Flair, where he ended Flair’s career.
