Unpopular Opinion: Another Shield reunion in 2019 is unnecessary and boring

Last night on RAW, The Shield once again reunited for the third time in three years and will take on the trio of Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre, and Bobby Lashley at Fastlane. It also is being advertised as the Shield's "last ride". The only problem is another Shield reunion is unnecessary and boring at this point.

The problem with the Shield's past reunions is that they have mostly been done just for the sake of doing it, not for a huge reason. The other issue is that the reunions have also felt short because of factors outside of WWE's control. In 2017, Rollins and Ambrose reunited and won the RAW Tag Team championships against the Bar before reuniting with Roman Reigns, who was feuding with The Miz at the time. This reunion hit a hitch when Reigns came down with meningitis in October and was ended in December when Ambrose suffered a triceps injury.

When Ambrose returned in the summer of 2018, WWE quickly picked up the Shield reunion again. Ambrose returned to be in Rollins' corner at Summerslam as Rollins took on Dolph Ziggler, who has Drew McIntyre in his corner, for the Intercontinental Championship. Also, at Summerslam, Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar and won the Universal Championship. On the following RAW, after Reigns defended the Championship against Finn Balor, Braun Strowman attempted to cash in his Money in the Bank contract but was stopped by Rollins and Ambrose, thus creating another Shield reunion.

Strowman would align with Ziggler and McIntyre to feud with the Shield until Reigns had to relinquish the Universal title due to his illness and later that same night, Ambrose turned on Rollins after winning the RAW tag team titles, thus ending the Shield again until last night's edition of RAW.

I am of the belief that a stable that was broken up in the fashion that the Shield was should only be reformed for a big and meaningful purpose, and these Shield reunions haven't felt that way in my opinion. Even fans on social media are not as excited for a Shield reunion as they were the first time it happened, which is fair when WWE keeps going to the same well over and over again. This latest reunion is a result of Baron Corbin and Braun Strowman's feud if you think about it. Corbin, McIntyre, and Lashley aligned to take out Strowman late last year when Corbin was still General Manager of RAW. Plus, McIntyre and Ambrose have been feuding with Ambrose and Rollins on and off for a while.

These Shield reunions are bordering on the DX reunions of the late 2000s. Their first reunion against the Spirit Squad wasn't horrible but was not great either. However, their reunion in 2009 against Legacy was terrible, mostly due to the comedic nature of it with Hornswoggle and the infamous "Little People's Court" segment. The latest DX reunion late last year was just sad due to the fact that The Undertaker and Kane couldn't do much. Triple H tore his pectoral early in the match, and Shawn Michaels basically had to carry the whole match on his own.

If the Shield keeps on this trend of reuniting, then they will easily lose their luster and fans will care less than they do now.
