It has been eight years since we last saw Wade Barrett perform in a WWE ring. Since his release in 2016, Barrett hasn't had another match and even though he returned in 2020, he adopted a role in the commentary team.

More recently, Wade Barrett got involved in the CM Punk and Drew McIntyre rivalry and WWE teased a feud when The former World Heavyweight Champion told his good friend to stay out of his business with The Best in the World.

Instead of a match between the two friends, the 44-year-old commentator could have a heel turn and return to the ring to re-form The Nexus, but this time with Drew McIntyre by his side.

Wade Barrett became the leader of The Nexus in June 2010, when he and other NXT rookies moved to the main roster. He stayed with the faction through January 2011, when CM Punk kicked him out of the stable.

During his time with the group, he got three world title opportunities but could not capitalize on any of them. Thus, re-forming The Nexus would give both him and Drew McIntyre a new direction in WWE. It could also help create a new feud, as the faction could go after The Bloodline.

Such a storyline would make sense since Barrett is set to return to SmackDown commentary team in January when RAW moves to Netflix, while Drew McIntyre's next feud could be on the blue brand, as he is not part of the official cover of RAW on Netflix.

In the meantime, it would help give other guys on the roster, who are also heels, the opportunity to find a new direction, while it could also lead to a future match between Barrett and McIntyre if they turn on each other.

Wade Barrett would love to face Drew McIntyre if he had one more match

Wade Barrett recently addressed the possibility of getting back to the ring after eight years.

Even though he made it clear that it is not something that he would actively pursue, he revealed that he would love to face Drew McIntyre at a sold-out Wembley Stadium, should he have one last match.

"If I could have one match for the remainder of my days on this planet and you're allowed one more match, who would it be? It would absolutely be me against Drew McIntyre at Wembley Stadium. A sold-out Wembley Stadium, I think that is the pinnacle for British wrestling," he said in an interview with AceOdds, via Fightful.

Heading into the next chapter for CM Punk and Drew McIntyre after Bad Blood, WWE could give more hints on whether they plan to have Wade Barrett and The Scottish Warrior work together on a new storyline going forward.
