WWE Superstar Damian Priest is set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Gunther at SummerSlam. The latter earned the title opportunity after winning the King of the Ring tournament finals. The two had a face-to-face confrontation during the latest episode of Monday Night RAW.
Gunther criticized Priest's title reign, claiming it meant nothing and that there had been no prestige. However, the former took things further by making it personal. Gunther stated that while he was being handed everything, Priest was fighting on the streets for his life and called El Campeon "Street Trash." This comment by The Ring General has left fans questioning if Damian Priest was really living on the streets before making it big. The answer is yes.
In past interviews, Priest has talked about his hardships, including being homeless and living on the streets for a few months before his WWE career. While speaking to Superluchas back in 2021, Damian said:
"I lived on the street for a few months because I had no money at all. I lived on the street, I slept on the street, and I was homeless and looking for how to eat. Even having work, I suffered."
Gunther's remarks have definitely added a personal edge to their feud, and it will be interesting to see how things play out in the coming weeks.
Gunther recently spoke about his upcoming match at WWE SummerSlam
Many fans believed that Seth Rollins would emerge victorious over Damian Priest at Money in the Bank and go on to face Gunther at SummerSlam. However, the Punishment of The Judgment Day managed to secure the win and will now defend his World Heavyweight Championship against The Ring General.
In a recent interview, Gunther was asked whether he was happy with this matchup or would have preferred someone like Seth Rollins or CM Punk.
Gunther responded by pointing out that the same people would complain about no new stars being built. He emphasized the importance of WWE's new management featuring new faces at the top, stating that this matchup presents a great opportunity for him and Priest to meet those expectations at SummerSlam.
"People were like, 'Why is Seth not involved? Why is Drew not involved? Why is Punk not involved?' On the other hand, it's the same people that would complain that there are no new stars built, there's no opportunities for other people than the usual ones... It's just a testament for management right now how it's important to them to feature new faces in those big roles and situations. And now it's up to both of us to step up to it and fulfill the expectations or even over fulfill them, exceed them," he said.
It will be interesting to see which of these stars walks out of WWE SummerSlam as the World Heavyweight Champion.
