Vince McMahon and Shane McMahon didn't always see eye-to-eye about WWE programming. However, it was a family-run business and disagreements weren't expected. Unfortunately, the situation took an extremely sour turn in 2022 when Shane O'Mac returned during the men's Royal Rumble match.
Shane McMahon entered the match as the 28th entrant, but it was Brock Lesnar who secured the victory. It so happens that 'The Boy Wonder' had other plans for Royal Rumble 2022 which Vince McMahon did not agree to. Reportedly, he wanted to book the men's match around himself and make himself stand out, but that is not how the match panned out.
Furthermore, some had taken issue with Shane McMahon's behavior backstage. Sometime after that, reports revealed that The Big Man had quietly released his son from the company. At this point, it was assumed that Shane wouldn't return to the promotion ever again, but he did make an impromptu appearance at WrestleMania 39 alongside Snoop Dogg against The Miz.
While there is nothing to confirm that Vince McMahon did not want his son to run WWE, their difference in ideas led to severe disagreements. In fact, Shane was rather frustrated with his father for continuously turning down his ideas.

However, after Royal Rumble 2022, it was established that Shane O'Mac wouldn't receive another huge opportunity in the company so long as 'The Big Man' held the reigns. Currently, Shane McMahon has no ties with WWE.
WWE veteran shares interesting opinion about Shane McMahon joining AEW rumors
Recently, rumors surfaced that Shane O'Mac was joining AEW. The rumors were shot down by Tony Khan when he revealed he had never had any conversation with McMahon. Now, WWE veteran Vince Russo believes that Vince McMahon might have tasked his son with testing the waters of AEW:
"Triple H is married to Stephanie [McMahon], Shane's [McMahon] got nothing to do with that company. Bro, nobody is gonna go in business with Vince McMahon. Nobody. However, Shane McMahon is as clean as a whistle. He's got nothing to do with the new company, he's got nothing to do with the WWE. Vince [McMahon] is cashing out all this stock. You don't think Vince [McMahon] is behind Shane [McMahon] fishing around at AEW?
It would be interesting to see 'The Boy Wonder' back in the pro-wrestling scene with an active role, especially if he joins WWE's competitor!
