One of the pervading rumors regarding Dean Ambrose’s dissatisfaction with WWE comes down to him not liking the sillier aspects of the company’s booking, including playing for laughs or cutting more cartoonish promos.

Indeed, when pundits consider today’s talents who would have been better suited to work in the more adult Attitude Era, Ambrose’s name is usually one of the first to come up.

If WWE does get Ambrose to stay, it may be with implicit or even explicit influence—allowing his character more creative freedom, and particularly letting him play a more rough-edged, realistic gimmick.

It’s hard for WWE to adjust for just one wrestler, so it’s possible that WWE could drag a larger swathe of the roster in this direction, and potentially for the better as WWE reestablishes its footing in this era post-John Cena working a full-time schedule, and while Roman Reigns' future remains unclear.
